Kids who grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s are very much familiar with the former child star Tom Taus who portrayed the protagonist Cedie in Cedie: Ang Munting Prinsipe. The 1996 movie was a film adaptation of the classic Japanese series Little Lord Fauntleroy which aired in ABS-CBN. The movie was also top-billed by veteran actors such as Ronaldo Valdez, Jaclyn Jose, and Mark Gil.
However, in 1999, Tom’s family moved to the United States. Sometime last year, after almost two decades, Tom’s name began to ring again but not as an actor anymore. Tom is now a DJ based in Los Angeles. In an interview, he said he wants to “focus on the music side.” Check out his Instagram page (@tomtaus).
“Dati pa ako nag-shift talaga sa field na ginagawa ko. I’ve been a DJ for eight, nine years. That’s been my main focus, my passion, that’s what I love doing,” he told the press.
Tom has already performed not just in the US and but in the Philippines as well, notably the Chroma Music Festival and Vibrant Music Festival both in 2016. He also travels around the country to showcase his skills in various clubs and event venues.
“Sobrang masaya ako sa ginagawa ko ngayon sa music, performing live with a lot of people. It’s a lot of different when you’re in front of the camera and when you are on stage, when you’re connecting with people. It’s a different feeling,” Tom said.
The former child star said he has no plans to go back into acting, but he is open to the idea with a few conditions.
“I would consider acting. It depends on the good role. I don’t want to do just any project. I haven’t acted in a long time so, if I’m gonna do something, I want it to be really good,” he said.
“Nakaka-miss din siya. Pero ngayon ang love ko ay music. ‘Yong acting, parang I did that for a long time. Pero it will be cool to be back to acting again,” he added.
Tom also shared that people still recognize him as ‘Cedie’ wherever he goes. But lately, he said, some are starting to know him as DJ Tom Taus which is a good thing.
“I want people to know what I do now. I’m not Cedie anymore, you know?” Tom said.
Tom also starred in other fantasy movies such as Batang Z and Anak Ng Bulkan during his brief career. But just as what he told the media, Tom is currently enjoying the Philippines again and he wants to establish his new name.
