NAIA Baggage Loaders Admitted to Stealing a Jewelry Box Owned by a Turkish Foreign Minister’s Wife!

Four baggage loaders of Miascor Ground Handling Corp. assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 were arrested after being suspected of stealingjewelry box owned by the wife of Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, The Philippine Star reports.

Ten pieces of jewelry were stolen from the Turkish foreign minister’s wife, Hulya Cavusoglu, during the couple’s return flight home from Manila’s NAIA Terminal 1, on Friday, August 4, 2017.

The box contained an Escada white gold ring, three sets of pearl earrings, a gold bracelet with diamonds, and two other rings adorned with diamonds and pearls, respectively, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal reported.

The foreign couple arrived in Manila last week to attend the the 50th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Ministerial Meeting. However, Hulya learned that her jewelry box that was placed inside her luggage had gone missing once she made her way back to Turkey.

Hulya immediately notified the Turkish embassy in Manila about the incident, which prompted airport authorities to take action. The MIAA then conducted an investigation.

Monreal said that the four suspects, Yves Ronald Baguion, Wilson Mataganas, John Andews Racoma and a man identified only as “Alfaro,” admitted to stealing the jewelry box on August 4th. Authorities were able to recover the pieces of jewelry from the baggage loaders after conducting a probe.

Monreal said they inspected the lockers of the baggage loaders and found the jewelry box in one of the suspects’ possessions. Connie Bungag, MIAA public affairs division chief, said the access pass privilege of the 4 culprits have been revoked.
