There are some people who are afraid of getting stuck inside an elevator because of how tight the space is. However, most of them don’t realize that the scarier thing about it is getting stuck without anyone knowing you’re inside.
This is exactly what happened to 82-year-old Isaak Komisarchik who had been missing since July 5. Nobody had any clue where he went off to since he had dementia.
After almost a month, elevator repair workers decided to open up a broken parking-garage elevator since they have been getting reports from residents of the Woodstream Village apartments of a foul smell coming from inside it. On August 2, they decided to open it and were horrified when they found the lifeless body of the old man.
According to investigation, Komisarchik pressed the emergency button inside the elevator twice before his untimely death. Unfortunately, no one responded to his call.
Denver Fire Department spokesman Capt. Greg Pixley said the investigators are now trying to find out why no one heard him press the emergency button twice!
Komisarchik’s family members said that he was wearing gray pajamas and a gray-and-white striped shirt on the day he disappeared. They added that he went missing at around 2pm on July 5.
‘He actually walked to the mailbox to pick up the mail and to the office to get some things from there and then he just disappeared,’ his daughter. Yelena said.
The daughter added that her father ‘couldn’t take long walks’ due to dementia and old age.
‘He physically couldn’t do that,’ Yelena explained.
‘He could’ve gotten disoriented at times,’ she added.
It was also reported that when he went missing, Denver Firefighters searched five ponds near his place hoping to find him.
Further investigations found that the garage elevator at Woodstream Village were found to be in good working order which is why they found it odd that no one responded to the old man’s emergency call. Despite this, the elevator in question had been closed for renovation even without any damage.
Here is what netizens said about the incident:
According to the Denver medical examiner, the cause of death of Komisarchik is still undetermined. However, many speculate that he might have died from starvation.
