FIRED: Police Officers Involved in the Shooting of the Young Man in Caloocan Under Investigation

  • Oplan Galugad is being blamed for the death of an innocent student.
  • Police raided an area in Caloocan hoping to find drug users but their brutality has come forth.
  • CCTV and eyewitness accounts show a different side of the story.

Rampant killings of alleged drug suspects have been a headline ever since President Duterte has taken charge. We know that war on drugs is the highlight of his campaign and he seems to be prioritizing this. But we also become more and more aware of the death rate rising.

The nation’s Oplan Tokhang has resulted in 7,000 deaths of alleged drug suspects, meaning some of these people aren’t actually proven as pushers and dealers. Highly criticized, this strategy has now claimed the young life of a Grade 11 student.

Executing their Oplan Galugad in Caloocan, police shot Kian Loyd Delos Santos. Those who shot him claimed that the kid had fought back which prompted the police to shoot him. The family of the young man denied this report.

A CCTV caught the footage of the student being carried by two policemen to the spot where he was found dead. There were also eyewitnesses who heard Kian being beaten up, blindfolded, and punched in the stomach.

They also heard them instruct Kian to shoot the gun then run. Out of fear, the kid did as asked and when he was running, that’s when they shot him. The release of the footage and the testimony of the witness sparked outrage from the people.

National Capital Region Police Officer Director Oscar Abayalde has reported that three known police officers involved in the shooting are now fired.

“Immediately, pina-relieve natin ‘yung tatlong involve na pulis, plus the PCP (Police Community Precinct) commander at temporarily in-assign natin sa Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit natin to pave the way for an impartial investigation,” said Abayalde.

Abayalde also reports that he is now in talks with the Regional Investigation Division to conduct an investigation regarding the boy’s death. He has also asked the district director to ensure the safety of Kian’s family members.
