Filipinos are known for their world-class talent in any field. Many have risen to fame all because of their skills; one of which is singing. The Voice Philippines runner-up, Alisah Bonaobra tried her luck on the X-Factor UK. Of course, the Filipina did not fail to impress the judges with her powerful voice when she sang Beyonce’s hit, “Listen.”
Bonaobra got 4 out 4 yes votes from the judges, Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne.
It seems that Simon was already expecting a lot from Alisah even before she began to sing. Cowell has already witnessed a lot of good Filipina singers like Jasmine Trias, Camile Velasco, Jessica Sanchez, the girl group, 4th Impact, and of course, Angelica Hale.
“I always think, you know, that a lot of people where you are from are amazing singers,” Cowell said.
In fact one of the judges, Nichole has Filipino blood.
She gave the hopeful a standing ovation and was touched by both her story and singing.
“I am crying because I come from humble beginnings as well. You’re just gorgeous. You know you’re this tiny little thing with a voice given from God, this unbelievable gift, blowing everybody away. I connect with you and everybody … it’s a yes for you and all the Filipinos out there,” Scherzinger explained.
Meanwhile, prior to singing, Alisah shared how their family earned a living. She mentioned that she had a difficult life in the Philippines and had to work hard. They sell takeaway food or packed viand with rice on the sidewalks.
Alisah aims to make the Filipino communities in the UK and her family who are in the Philippines proud.
A lot of her Filipino friends came with her during the auditions to show their support.
The Filipina is now an official contestant of the show and will be moving to the next round of the competition.
